What to Do When Your Disney Reservation Falls Through

A reservation you planned a day around can fall through at the last minute. Maybe it never came through, maybe you had to cancel, or maybe you’re running late. This guide is for the day before or the day of: what to try right away, what our data shows about last-minute openings, and how to keep the day going.

If you’re still weeks out, the backup-plan playbook is the better starting point.

Facts last verified September 28, 2026

Can you still get it back last minute?

Sometimes. Disney says a cancelled reservation time is immediately made available to another guest, so a slot can reappear at any moment, even the day before.

I’ve seen this myself. Cinderella’s Royal Table was fully booked for my family’s dates for a month, and we caught a cancellation the day before our visit. We also had a backup booked, just in case. If the cancellation hadn’t come, we still had a plan.

What our data shows about last-minute openings

BookADream’s opening log (July 7 – September 28, 2026) is mostly Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. In it:

  • About 13% of openings appeared 0–1 days before the visit.
  • Most of those (roughly 7 in 10) came the day before, not the same day.
  • They appeared during the day: just under half between 6 AM and noon Eastern, the rest in the afternoon and evening, and none overnight (midnight–6 AM).

Caveats: this is a small sample, mostly from one experience, and only covers the dates and party sizes our users tracked. We can’t point to a single best hour to check, and same-day openings were too few to say anything specific about the day itself.

What to try right now

1. Check availability again

Search your restaurant in My Disney Experience for today and tomorrow. Try every time and meal period, not just the one you lost. Our data suggests daytime checks are more useful than overnight ones.

2. Join a walk-up list

At select table-service restaurants, including ones in all four parks and several resorts, you can check availability and join the walk-up list in the My Disney Experience app. You’ll get a notification when your table is ready. You need the latest app version with location services on.

3. Ask about walk-ins for experiences

Some experiences keep a few spots for the day. For example, Disney says Harmony Barber Shop holds a limited number of walk-in appointments each day, and Savi’s Workshop and Droid Depot may offer same-day reservations up to 2 hours ahead, plus occasional walk-ins.

4. Check a different day of your trip

If today is gone, look at the rest of your trip. Moving a meal to another park day is often easier than finding the exact same slot.

Swap in a backup

If it doesn’t come back, pick an alternative that covers the same need:

What you lostWhat to look for instead
A character mealA different character meal, even at another meal period or resort
Dining in a specific parkA walk-up list at another table-service restaurant in that park
A kids’ experienceA shorter or walk-in option, or a character meet-and-greet
A sit-down meal at a set timeMobile order at quick service, so the day’s schedule holds

Mind the fees

If you’re giving up a reservation, cancel it rather than skipping it. For most restaurants, Disney charges $10 per person for no-shows or cancellations within 2 hours. Some experiences have different terms. For example, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique charges $10 for cancellations within 24 hours, and Savi’s and Droid Depot require full payment at booking. Check your confirmation.

Next time: hold a backup

The easiest way to handle a last-minute loss is to already have a plan B booked. That’s what made our Cinderella’s Royal Table day low-stress. Just remember to cancel the one you don’t use before the fee window.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you get a Disney World dining reservation the same day? Sometimes. When do last-minute Disney reservation openings appear?
